Learn. Heal. Grow.
You want a life that is not defined by your past.
Does it feel difficult to identify your own thoughts and feelings? Or is it the opposite-you feel a rush of emotions and aren’t sure why. You have recurring bad dreams, feel on edge or on high alert most of the time. You have kept negative thoughts to yourself about something that happened to you. It’s hard to admit or say it out loud, but blocking it out is no longer working.
However you’re dealing with negative past experiences or trauma, it has reached a point that you’re no longer able to ignore it or push it aside. You want to feel better now and have freedom in your future to live a life you want and that you choose. A life that is not defined by your past experiences.
Maybe you…
Find it difficult to allow others to get close to you or maintain relationships
Find yourself avoiding certain people, places or things
Are experiencing challenges focusing at work or completing tasks
Being alone can feel overwhelming or a crowd is uncomfortable and overstimulating
Find yourself repeating life patterns that aren’t helpful to you anymore
Feel exhausted just trying to make it through the day
Therapy is a safe space to help you learn, grow and heal from trauma or negative experiences from your past.
You can gain confidence and feel better about yourself and your relationships. You can feel less on edge or high alert in settings that are typically uncomfortable. Your sleep can improve, leading to feeling well rested and having more energy. You can complete tasks with more ease and focus and have more balance in work and life routines.
Trauma is subjective, meaning that what is considered traumatic is different for everyone. However you choose to define your life experiences is not as important as your willingness to learn, grow and heal. I offer a safe space that is supportive and conducive to healing to encourage your comfort while talking about challenging topics.
In your work with me I will help you understand how these experiences have impacted your life. You’ll be given coping strategies to help you in your day-to-day life right now. I will provide you with tools to learn healthy behaviors, change negative belief patterns and achieve your goals of healing and regain control of your life again.

Frequently asked questions about counseling for trauma
-
No. It does not matter if you come to therapy and know (or define) that you’ve experienced trauma or not. We’re all human and we all experience negative and challenging life events. If you’re having difficulty managing such a life event, then I’m glad you’re here. I am not here to judge or define your experience, but to help you talk about it, learn, grow and heal. My goal is to help you feel better no matter how you choose to define your experience.
-
Yes and no. You can experience trauma and be diagnosed with PTSD or experience trauma and not have PTSD. PTSD or Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is a DSM-V-TR diagnosis that has a specific set of criteria that a person must meet to receive the diagnosis. This is based on witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event and having specific symptoms, such as nightmares, flashbacks or avoidance of people, places or things related to the trauma. There are additional criteria that must be met that are not covered here. Whether you receive a trauma related diagnosis or not, does not impact the benefits of the therapy process.
